Sierra Energy Design was founded in 1996 by Gary McDonald, a Professional Engineer with more than 30 years of experience in large commercial and industrial facilities. He has organized a team of talented professionals that specializes in evaluating and improving plant infrastructure – including steam, compressed air, refrigeration, and environmental control systems.
Gary is an imaginative and effective technical problem solver who understands the special requirements of implementing improvements in a working production environment. His expertise includes evaluating plant processes and procedures, identifying operational and low-cost methods for improvement, and providing training to operators and maintenance staff.
Throughout his career, Gary has developed, designed, and managed upgrades in many industrial and manufacturing environments, including:
- Automobile stamping, painting and assembly
- Chemical refining
- Petrochemical
- Metals (smelting, forging, hot- and cold-rolling, steel & copper)
- Pharmaceutical
- Rice and oat processing and feed mills
- Refrigerated warehouses
- Seed oil refineries and
- Dairy processing plants.
Gary earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico State University in 1986. He currently resides in Chandler, Arizona.
