SED performed a custom conceptual design, provided economic analysis, and managed installation and start-up of a novel side-stream condensing boiler economizer for a large 300-KPPH industrial steam system located at a South Carolina regional industrial park. The economizer system reduced the facility’s overall steam and natural gas consumption and carbon emissions by >12%.

SED developed strategies for automated demand response at three large automotive manufacturing facilities located in Ontario, Canada. The ADR program was promulgated by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) of Ontario. Strategies developed included the dispatched operation of existing generating assets, installation of an energy storage system (chilled water) to allow for load shedding, and direct load shedding of non-critical loads. These strategies resulted in demand reduction opportunities of over 5-MW.

SED developed a detailed mass and energy balance for a brewing company based in San Francisco, California. A detailed energy balance was used to optimize heat recovery and minimize thermal requirements of the site’s steam boilers. Strategies were employed to increase brew-kettle heat recovery and add a new boiler stack heat recovery system along with expanding stored tempered water capacity.

SED performed a conceptual design and managed the detailed mechanical design and construction of all central plant services for a major dairy processing facility located in Winnipeg, Canada. Utility systems included an all-variable speed central chilled glycol system, with tower free-cooling capability, and a best-in-class energy efficient oil-free ISO 8573-1 CLASS 0 sanitary compressed air system.
