About Sierra Energy Design
Sierra Energy Design was founded in 1996 by Gary McDonald, a mechanical engineer with decades of experience implementing utility systems and efficiency upgrades in large commercial and industrial facilities. Mr. McDonald is an imaginative and effective technical problem solver who understands the special requirements of implementing improvements in a working production environment.
Mr. McDonald has been in the industrial energy-efficiency and renewable energy space since the mid-1980s. A mechanical engineer with decades of expertise evaluating plant processes and procedures, identifying operational and low-cost methods for improvement, and providing training to operators and maintenance staff. Mr. McDonald has developed, designed, and managed upgrades in many industrial and manufacturing environments, including:
• Renewable fuels application and manufacturing
• Dairy and food processing
• Automobile stamping, painting and assembly
• Large commercial heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning
• Petrochemical manufacturing
• Metals (smelting, forging, hot- and cold-rolling, steel & copper)

Mr. McDonald earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico State University in 1986. He currently resides in Chandler, Arizona.
